Thread: Acer Aspire One (AO751h) freezes at startup (UNE 10.04)

hi everyone,

i've installed ubuntu netbook edition 10.04.1 on acer aspire 1 (ao751h) , after updates, have 2 different kernels choose from:

ubuntu, linux 2.6.32-24-gerenic
available right after installation. if select option, hdd makes noise second , stalls. i'm left blinking "cursor" on lcd monitor , afaik, system frozen.

ubuntu, linux 2.6.32-24-gerenic (recovery mode)
option runs machine, freezes @ random line, 90% of time freezes @ line:

[ 1.253353] ata1: pata max udma/100 cmd 0x1f0 ctl 0x3f6 bmdma 0x1810 irq 14
[ 1.253356] ata2: pata max udma/100 cmd 0x1f0 ctl 0x3f6 bmdma 0x1810 irq 15

if lucky, can "recovery menu". can choose there "resume normal startup" , gets me gui. time time choose "resume fail safe graphic mode" option, have login myself through console , use "startx" command.

ubuntu, linux 2.6.32-21-gerenic
option got available after applying of available updates. of time (8 out of 10) same .32-24-generic. if gets through first few critical seconds, gets me normal gui.

ubuntu, linux 2.6.32-21-gerenic (recovery mode)
acts same .32-24-generic (recovery)

because machine features gma500 chipset, needed install "poulsbo" update (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/hardwaresupp...eocardspoulsbo).

i've got latest bios update , don't think it's hardware issue. i'm dual booting machine licensed win 7 ultimate , works (it never freezes @ boot , never freezes while working).

grateful kind of diagnosing issue. love ubuntu netbook edition, because it's 10 times faster win 7 , makes netbook usable again (when works).

i've same problem same acer netbook....
