Elements Editor 7 stopped working...Help...(possibly visual runtime c++)

i have windows vista 64 bit 4.00 gb ram (if matters) , adobe photoshop elements 7.  had worked fine since bought in march of 2009 until 3 weeks ago (only editor stopped working - organizer still works fine).  working fine 1 day, , next day, tried load editor , got message:  "adobe photoshop elements (editor) has stopped working....a problem caused program stop working correctly.  windows close program , notify if solution available."  (of course, no notifications of solutions have magically appeared solution fairy.)  can't think of changed on system between 2 days.  far know, don't have viruses.  there may have been windows update, don't know since of automatic.  had been working on creating card had been using clip art had downloaded, don't see how problem...

anyway, started searching solution , couldn't find definitive.  on course of few days, kept trying load editor in hopes had been visited magical solution fairy , fixed, got message couple of times.  don't have exact message because appeared couple of times , went generic message.  new message having microsoft visual runtime c++ error.  did find solution mentioned error, had uninstalling visual runtime c++ program , reinstalling it.  let me right here not computer savvy.  can follow directions next guy, , success have ever had in fixing own computer problems came because stubborn , don't leave problems unresolved.  however, not delete programs.  thought of deleting , changing things on computer gives me nightmares. ( bought mac because told wouldn't have fix things , fiddle programming , such.)  anyway, haven't tried uninstall runtime c++ thingy because don't know is.

so, next step contact adobe.  boy wasn't disappointment!!  $30 phone support??!! when can barely understand person i'm speaking with?!  no thank you!!  disappointed in adobe customer service right now.  understand maybe $10, not wealthy person , have mindful of every dollar spend.  when buy pse 8 $50 (with rebates) on amazon right now, why spend $30 support , not sure fix problem....

anyway, here am.  asking help.  yes, directed me troubleshooting page has 25 solutions (+ #26 paying $30 support).  tried couple of things, frankly, right issue of being terrified changing or deleting on system.  plus, solution list looks take forever!  don't have kind of time.  live on busy large farm , homeschooling mom 3 young children.  don't have time fooling around program should working fine.  why can't these things more simple??

so, should do?  there solution?  or have troubleshooting 25-step program? (just sign me aa, too.  i'm sure i'll need after this.)  if thing can try (other $30 support), should buy pse 8?  wonder if have same problem it.  led believe support pse 8 free (since newer version).  assumption on part?

so, solutions or ideas??  (by way, wouldn't mind trying of 25 steps if tell me weren't going totally mess system.)
