[SOLVED] IE8 being selective on color changes - Joomla! Forum - community, help and support

hi , ahead of time comments can make on this.

[fyi, joomla1.5, ja purity, ie8, ff3.5, chrome 3]

i’m new of , i’m asking direction on ie8 problem.

yesterday made 2 rounds of font , background color changes left menu items on ja purity. installed scheme (black/pure white), changed/added hex # in appropriate css files – nothing else. made ‘change 1’: worked fine. ff, chrome, ie8 showed before, except new menu font/background colors.

i tried set of colors. find , replace #xxxxxx #yyyyyy. change 2 worked also. original template design, change 1, , change 2 worked fine , looked alike except menu item colors.

i liked colors change 2. left uploaded , trashed temp copies of change 1. (i have copied originals folder). didn’t notice ie8 never moved change 2. stayed @ color set ‘1’ – hex#’s not exist in css file on machine or server. checked ie8 on machine, displays set 1’ colors too.

just (over) explain, , example of changes…

part of original css..
background: url(../images/hdot2.gif) repeat-x bottom;
…. fine

color 1 changes looked this:
background: url(../images/hdot2.gif) repeat-x bottom #abc5bf;
… edit worked fine on browsers

color 2 – find , replace
background: url(../images/hdot2.gif) repeat-x bottom #d4e2df;
… ie8 stays edit 1 (#abc5bf) though it’s edited out.

i cleaned cache through joomla end , caching has been disabled through (at global configuration manager). no impact. have joomla backward compatibility module installed. (and i’ve checked same on ie browser settings). cleared machine, happening on other machines

this subject posted before, http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p=948343 suggests ie8-specific css’s , mods index.php. it’s 2007 post – don’t know if that’s current j1.5 , ie8.

so here questions:

1) what missing?
2) i understand ie products behave differently, if ie has problem (syntax, compatibility, etc.) why did , keep first change?
3) i don’t mind doing more leg work. being new, can point me subjects or posts should research?

in end, don’t need have colors, need understand mechanism don’t create other, larger problems going forward.

thank thank you
steve

me again,

i made mistake.

for reference sake:

i had changed menu.css , (black) style.css color scheme 1.

i changed menu.css not (black) style.css scheme 2.

ff , chrome picked format changes menu.css. ie stayed black style.css

so there difference in behavior, it's mistake not managing revisions , keeping code clean

i'll fix it, right sorta feel hiding under rock.
steve
