this error says before start dating operating system

repository may no longer available or not contacted because of network problems. if available older version of failed index used. otherwise repository ignored. check network connection , ensure repository address in preferences correct."

diagnose problem
this sounds connection problem me.
try running, in terminal (applications>addessories>terminal);
have terminal on full screen , watch. if downloads anything, not complete, hit arrow key. bring last command. hit enter again. if not complete then, post terminal out put here.code:sudo apt-get update
