TUTORIAL: Previously working effects now missing? Here's the fix...

warning: process involves editing windows registry, if squeamish sort of thing, not attempt this. i'm not responsible broken computers, hurt feelings, or terrified household pets.

 

i've ocassionally run issue since cs4 plugins/effects spontaneously cease loading in premiere pro , functioning, , apparently continues affect cs5. happened on 3 total different computers, i'm not sure underlying cause is. there no clear reason why happen: i'd use effect 1 day, come next , load project, , effects reported "missing" upon project load:

 

 

this doesn't happen "built-in" effects ship premiere, has happened repeatedly cycore effects (copied ae plugins directory) or third-party plugins digieffects, red giant, trapcode, etc. after loading mesage, instance of filter show in effects control panel "offline filter" , filter have no effect on clip applied. isn't case of effect not being compatible premiere, had showed in effect bin , applied , used, evidenced error pop-up above. uninstalling , reinstalling plugins has no effect on correcting issue. after bit of hunting around, figured out how correct problem--not underlying cause, still cannot pinpoint, can @ least filters/effects/plugins loading , operating again. note following applies windows systems; i'm not sure if affects macs, , if does, have no clue how correct it.

 

in explorer, go following folder: c:\users\username\appdata\roaming\adobe\premiere pro\5.0. inside, find file called plugin loading.log. text file can open notepad or similar text editor. in it, you'll find long list of entries this:

 

 

anything says "the plugin loaded registry" loaded, , therefore able used in premiere. however, upon scrolling through file, see (using cc snow example above):

 

 

at point in list, successfully-loaded plugins stop , list change "the plugin marked ignore, not loaded." herein lies problem , solution; need correct issue in registry, since know above example plugins loaded registry.

 

in windows, click start button/orb, , select run; in panel appear, type in regedit. launch registry editor. safety precaution before going further select file > export , save entire registry selecting radio button. pick location , up; may take few moments. important if you're not familiar editing registry, because can pretty toast os installation if poke @ animals shouldn't. you've been warned.

 

navigate following key in registry editor: hkey_current_user\software\adobe\premiere pro\5.0\plugincache.64\en_us. here, see long list of other subkeys, each of bears name of plugin. if click on 1 of keys in left pane (looks folder icon explorer), see list of values, types, , data hold in pane on right. using plugin loading.log text file guide, compare plugin loads 1 doesn't. you'll see following disparity:

 

 

if "ignore" value set "0" (binary data), plugin loads; if "ignore" value set "1," plugin not load. based on information, solution should apparent:

 

 

using plugin loading.log text file guide, change data "ignore" value set "1." important note: not "enable" effects wouldn't otherwise work in premiere pro anyway. example, of cycore effects, time blend, time blend fx, , split 2, not work in premiere, regardless of how "ignore" value set. if should happen change them, premiere set value "1" next time launch program.

 

once you've changed these values (there's no need save, changes made registry), launch premiere. if successfully, nothing interesting happen--you'll greeted no error messages, , once-missing effects resume place , settings on sequence clips. can confirm "fix" reopening plugin loading.log (be sure have closed file before relaunching premiere, overwritten each time), , looking entries ignored:

 

 

there have it. again, don't know reason why happens, i've been bitten oddity numerous times in cs4, , in cs5. best guess happens when premiere crashes during loading (which seems happen me) or there other "issue" during launch. sort of self-defense mechanism, premiere tells registry disable these plugins ensure successful load next time program launched, not automatically re-enabled, , hence need convoluted fix. under normal circumstances, imagine relatively few users ever encounter issue--but if do, know how work.

as general point of interest....in computer land... 0 ( 0 ) means no , 1 means yes...its on off switch basically... he's saying here normal type logic...

 

also, if example turn on off have not done "damage" registry re if reason item still doesnt load properly...

in other words, wont hurt yes changing value 1 zero.... no matter what....as long in right key of registry....

i agree logic of colin's suggestion fix , suggest try it.
