Redoing external backup disk catalogs

using windows 7.

 

i installed lr 3 , imported card first time.  first time didn't go good.

 

i intended import 1 of hd's on computer , @ same time external backup drive.  reason when files went backup did not go in organized way intended , ended in best called %^%#^^ jumble.

 

i went explorer , organized imported images proper hierarchical folders on backup drive.  want organized non jumble replace jumble shows in lr.

 

is possible dump entire catalogue backup hd , replace organized one?  if how?  , if not, best mthod sccomplish this?

well, 1 thing might ask self... how did ... jumble?  if don't figure out how , why, you'll end new jumble every time import images, , that's no fun.

 

but backup, sure.  delete old files , copy across new one.  use "mirrorfolder" automatically, can like.  make sure copy top-level folder of catalog, , should fine.

 

whoops! missed step!  misread post, , thought had sorted in lr, not explorer.  okay, 1 more step you'll need after copy on images "find" them again.  lr show '?' mark there missing photos/folders.  right click on it, can browse is.  better yet, can delete catalog file (not images!) , new catalog, , import 'add' won't move images.  creates new one, , happy.  that's do.
